Mesoporous silica has many features that make it an attractive material to use in medicine, for example as a drug delivery and in vivo imaging agent. In this presentation, these features will be highlighted, the issues involved in designing porous silica particles for use in biological applications will be developed, and several examples of ongoing research will be presented.
