Research lines

The Instituto de Tecnología Química (ITQ CSIC-UPV) focuses its activities on three major fields: catalysis; advanced functional materials; and chemical reactions and processes.

These are very diverse fields, but if there is one thing that characterizes the Institute, it is that whenever a new area of interest arises in society, it is able to reorient its research to solve existing problems.

Research Areas:

Catalysis: Catalysis represents the historical core of the ITQ and focuses on the design and study of catalysts, as well as on the control of molecular reactivity and selectivity. Catalysis remains the central tool for the development of sustainable, high-impact processes in the fields of energy, health, and sustainability.

Advanced Functional Materials: This area focuses on the design, synthesis, characterization, and functionalization of advanced materials for scientific and technological applications. Key activities include the development of solid catalysts based on crystalline microporous materials, the design of nanomedicines for controlled drug delivery, and materials engineering for photochemical, photovoltaic, and neuromorphic applications.

Chemical Reactions and Processes: In this area, the principles of chemical engineering, multiscale modelling, and simulation tools are combined to design and scale up cleaner and more efficient industrial processes. The goal is clear: to translate discoveries at the molecular and materials levels into real, industry-applicable solutions.
