ITQ researchers, in collaboration with the ICMol, the ALBA synchrotron, and the Universities of Calabria and Cádiz, have just published the synthesis of isolated palladium atoms both in solution and in MOFs, and their application as highly efficient and selective catalysts for the aerobic oxidation of benzyl alcohols to carboxylic acids, without any additives or solvents. This direct oxidation, which circumvents the aldehyde intermediate, supposes a sustainable synthesis of carboxylic acids, from alcohols and air.
