 The Defect Engineering in Ru-based MOFs at coordinatively unsaturated metal centers (CUS) induces partial reduction of the metal nodes and evokes properties being absent for the parent MOFs, such as low temperature CO2 reduction or enhanced sorption capacity of CO. DEEMOFs offer new perspectives as multifunctional materials which performance is controlled by design of the defects.
