Fernando Ramiro Manzano is a Tenured Scientist at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), whose line of research is photonics, studied from different perspectives. Initially, he studied a variety of self-assembled colloidal crystalline structures, with particular emphasis on HCP structures and Apollonian packings. He later focused on individual silicon microspheres as photonic resonators, developing them as single-particle biomarkers.

At the University of Trento (UniTN), Italy, he further investigated the coupling of high-Q on-chip resonators and interactions between resonators, studying nonlinear phenomena as well as Hermitian and non-Hermitian effects. At the University of Valencia (UV), his research focused on magneto-optical effects in two-dimensional materials. He is currently working at the Institute of Chemical Technology (ITQ), where he studies chirality in photonic microstructures.
